W is for Women

Five Minute Friday post is at the end.  :)

I do not want to be one of those girls.  You know, the one that makes other girls feel bad.  Here’s the thing.  I have always had great girlfriends – ALWAYS!  Just recently have I discovered that this isn’t normally the case.  Can I say right now that I am deeply sorry for the other girls that have hurt you and made it hard for you to have great girlfriends.  There really are some amazing ones out there.

With friends from elementary school after our 20th reunion
I realize how blessed I am.  I have amazing women in my life that I have known since we were just wee, little things – including my sister, who you already met.  As a matter of fact, I am getting ready to spend part of this weekend with some amazing women at an inRL Meetup.  It’s not too late to join us if you are reading this on Friday.  Just click on over to register.

I love working with women, hanging out with other gals, growing and learning with other fabulous chicas.  I think you are amazing and fabulous. (I have guy friends, too, chief among them is my super-awesome husband.)

I have friends that are single, married, divorced, single moms, without children, have 6+ kids, are grandmothers…..  My life is like the Baskin-Robbins of female friendships.  I wouldn’t have it any other way.

So while I recognize that a stray male, or two, may read my words I know that you are most likely a gal!  Let me just tell you now how much I appreciate you, how special you are, and how loved you are.
To quote Holley Gerth, “You’re Already Amazing”!

I am honored that you would spend any part of your day with me here.

Here is a bonus!!
Five Minute Friday
Just 5 minutes.  Only 5 minutes.  That’s all I have to spill the beans, make sense of it all, and pray you understand just a bit of what’s in my head and my heart about:

Friend

Where are you friend?  Are you next door? Have we even met yet?

For me, friends are area codes and time zones and even oceans away – but not all of them.
For me, friends are cups of coffee, walks in Manhattan, cupcakes discovered, Bible studies completer – but not all of them.

For me, friends are weddings, and funerals, and babies, and miscarriages, and every other kind of pain – but not all of them.

For me, friends are still 17 in my mind, are fellow grad students, other newlyweds, new moms, and transplants – but not all of them.

For me, friends are small square avatars, comments left at the end of pouring out your heart, 140 characters at a time – but not all of them.

For me friends are the connections, long and short, near and far, new and old, some I don’t even know yet – yes, all of them.

STOP

Then, head over to Lisa-Jo’s to link up with others, then check out the one who linked before me, leave some comment love, then hit as many others as I can and do the same.  Join us?

Looking forward to meeting my new friends tomorrow at my inRL meetup.  Where do you become a friend?

  2. So glad we've both been blessed with amazing girlfriends (and super-awesome hubbies!). They are a gift from God, and through the years have been such an encouragement to me. I'm glad I live in an age where friendships can easily continue despite distance.

    1. If one-size-fits all were the only kind of friends we'd all look like a hot mess, don't you think? Ahh... value.. there it is again. friendships require us to be intentional. Enjoying knowing you better.

  4. Having girlfriends means so much! I also have a few in Göteborg where I used to live. One of them is a girl from my hometown, and we even went to kindergarten together. I haven't seen her for a long long time because the winter/spring has been crazy so far, but I'll try to go and see her asap.

    1. The two girls upfront in my pic I've known since kindergarten. The one in blue is getting ready to move back to Japan in a few months, so I don't know when I'll get to see her. So thankful for Facebook! Thankful for you, too! :)

  8. Oh, Amy! What a brilliant choice for W and I love your take on FMF!!!
I am blessed to have you as a friend. When I think of all of the laughs that we have shared, the opening of our hearts to each other, the countless memories made, the opportunity to serve our great God together, the support through the good, bad and ugly, the rejoicing with one another in the blessings- I just am amazed that God has blessed me so incredibly. Love you!

  16. You are very blessed indeed. I may have had that same experience if we hadn't moved every 1-4 years my school years , lol. I did retain one close friend in particular from all of those moves, and I am blessed to have even that! There are people out there who have no one. You are right- I think it's not the norm for most people to have these amazing friends their whole lives. It's sad. Women need to stick together and embrace each other for who we are-no matter what. I like that you have a baskin robbins bucket of friends :)

  19. Friendships can be long distance or a block away the main reason they are special to us is the desire and the willingness we take to cultivate those relationships no matter the distance or road blocks.
WE receive the gifts with open hands and open hearts.

    1. Willingness - yes! So much of how we are affected by anything in life is determined by how we respond with our will. Beautifully said!
