S is for My Sweetie

Today is all about my Sweetie (whose name also starts with the letter S).  There is so much to tell you and no way to put it all here.  If you want to know me better, you definitely need to know him.

My big guy was raised on a farm in my hometown.  We went to the same elementary school and high school, but our families never really knew each other.  Even rural areas are like that.  We worked at the same grocery store while in college and that is where we really got to know each other and the rest became history.

So, back to my Sweetie!  He is one of the most loyal, hard-working, loving people you will ever meet.  Growing up with farm work as part of your daily life will do that to a person.  From high school and through college, he worked while studying and helping out the family.  He also managed to find time to cultivate a love for cycling and old Mustangs – good thing he had that work ethic to support those hobbies.  He has shared those loves with me and they have become a big part of who I am today.

My guy also happens to be one of a handful of individuals across the nation capable of doing his job.  He holds a very specialized position in a large financial institution.  Early on God blessed us by being in the right place at the right time for his first real banking job.  To this day, he is still asked about being a 24 year old and recapitalizing a bank after the whole Savings & Loan debacle of the mid-90’s.

His work has allowed us to live all over the eastern half of the United States and make more wonderful friends than any two people should reasonably expect to know in a lifetime.

To say that I am blessed and highly favored is an understatement.  After nearly 22 years of marriage, I can assert this with full confidence.  It hasn’t all been easy, some of it has been incredibly painful and testing, but we have worked through it all together.  Our latest adventure raising our son is proving no different – I wouldn’t expect anything else.

Love is so much more than emotion or feeling.  It is choice, preferring another over self, sacrifice, accountability, grit and determination.  If anyone tells you otherwise, they are leaving out most of the story – the really interesting bits, anyway.

11 For I know the plans I have for you. Declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 29:11-13  NIV

  1. Oh how I love this! "If you want to know me better, you definitely need to know him." Is this not just the sheer simple truth? Maybe our guys will get to meet in Oct... possibly!
