I grew up in the country in the mountains of Southwest
Virginia. After all my relocations and
travels I am convinced this is the most beautiful part of the United States.
I affectionately call myself a hillbilly with one leg shorter
than the other from walking on hillsides.
As such, I love the outdoors. To
clarify, I’m not what you would call particularly outdoorsy, though. I don’t fish or camp. I don’t like insects, lizards and the
type. I don’t hunt, although I am a pretty
decent shot with a firearm or bow and arrow.
I actually love target shooting.
I love hiking and am blessed to have grown up just off
the Appalachian Trail and the Virginia Creeper Trail. You won’t find my roughing it with all my
belongings in a backpack. You may
however find me with some snacks and a camera searching for wild ponies in
Grayson Highlands state park or near the top of White Top Mtn. taking in the
view.
I also love digging in the dirt to make things grow. You might even find me up in an apple tree
trimming limbs with a hand saw. One of
these days we will finally get settled on our farm and I will have my
garden! At least that’s my plan.
This summer I hope to get out on my bike more when I’ll
have access to better roads. I also want
to get out on the water in a kayak some, too.
I’ve done this a time, or two, but it was WONDERFUL!! I highly recommend giving it a shot.
Spring and summer make me anxious to pull on a pair of
hiking boots and head for the hills.
Do you have a favorite outdoor activity or does that
whole idea make you break out in hives?
I almost chose outdoors, too!! Love learning all these neat things about you!
ReplyDeleteI'm learning so much about you, too, through your words to your precious kiddos.
DeleteOk Amy, you had me at "hillbilly" :) YES - we most certainly DO live in the most beautiful place on earth! I don't bow hunt or "any" hunt for that matter, but how I love our green mountains. I could start at them all day long. Outdoors -- that's my new favorite O word too!
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to be from those hills and not love the outdoors.
DeleteI love the outdoors! Like you, I don't like bugs or hunting or fishing or such, but I love being out there, walking around in the forest, taking pictures and just take in the atmosphere and the calm.
ReplyDeleteI realize I watch too much crime TV when the name Appalachian trail makes me think of an episode of Criminal minds. Oh well.. :D
Oh my, you need to do something quick to change that image of the trail. :) I haven't been to your place yet. I'm imaging "Oh, Susannah", but somehow I don't think it will be. ;)
