Come, Sit and Stay

Five Minute Friday

It’s Friday, my day to set aside five minutes for playing with words.  I see what word the lovely Lisa-Jo has for me, set a timer, and run free across the keyboard.   No overthinking, no editing, just free.  When 5 minutes are up I stop.  I try to find a picture and put it on here for the entire world to read.  After that, I link up at her website with amazing women, and occasionally a brave guy or two, and go read.  I read the one who linked up before me and leave some encouragement in the comments.  I can’t stop myself and just keep going like a kid in a candy store.

Now that you know what to do would you like to join me?

Here is my Five Minute Friday offering on: STAY

This week at my CBS (Community Bible Study) Ellen Vaughn spoke to us for a few minutes.  She has written several books and was telling us about her newest one – Come, Sit, Stay.

This book is an exhortation to Come to the feet of Jesus, Sit at His feet in study, and to Stay – a continual coming back and staying in His presence.

Staying is hard sometimes, especially the staying that requires effort.  I can stay on the couch no problem, but that requires so little of me.

Staying in contact with an old friend – that takes work.

Staying on track with exercise or eating – that takes work.

Staying committed to daily spending time with Jesus – that takes work.

The first two are hard enough, but the third is a target.  We are constantly under attack to keep this one from happening which makes it all the more important.

Time!

P.S. - if you look closely you might just find me on Lisa-Jo's post today.  ;)

  1. It is hard. And, they don't seem to work well together sometimes. Recently, I went out-of-state to surprise my bestie for her birthday. Traveling makes the exercising harder and, then, getting back at it when returning home took a little motivation.
Spending time with my Savior, also, gets easily put off. But, being with Him helps make the other things easier.
Hope you have a lovely day.

  2. The first two are hard enough, but the third is a target. SO. VERY. TRUE. While at Allume I was able to discern the direction from the Lord for my blog. On Wednesdays I write about my healthy lifestyle quest and my weight loss journey...just getting started.

Great post...you must be in one of the pictures, but I can't find you. How about a hint? We didn't meet while at Allume, but I was at the 5 minute Friday meet-up too.

    1. I know it!! When I was going through my list, I couldn't believe we didn't meet. I saw you across the room a few times, but couldn't make my way over. There's a good reason to go next year.
I'll have to check out your new post series. sounds exciting, especially when you know it's the direction God is leading you.

Hint: bottom picture, center background w/ blue 7 grey striped top looking very serious. :)

    1. I know with me I often make it to the gym more easily than finding quiet time. And the couch... well, that's calling my name right now. It is constant work, isn't it?

    1. That gave me such a big smile! I appreciate you so much and was so happy to get to spend time with you in person. I'm guessing you meant plan, but play will work, too. ;)

  6. Hi friend!

(are you in the second picture? In stripes? You've probably answered in some of the above comments, but I wanted to say my guess before I looked for the answer!) :)

and yes...this is hard stuff you're talking about here. so thankful I have you to encourage me to keep striving at them. He's worth it.

    1. You found me! The feeling is entirely mutual with the encouragement. I just couldn't do it. I felt like I was starting to get sick, but was fine this morning. Some amazing gals were praying. :)

  7. I think sometimes that I rush around God in my business, just throwing him glances and comments from time to time. What a difference that it makes to really sit with him.

    Nicely done, friend.
