I need to
make a fresh start today – for several reasons.
One of the biggest places I’ll be starting over is in my
refrigerator. Last weekend we had a major storm that knocked out most everyone’s power. Here that was about 1.5 million
customers. That’s a lot of people,
folks. South of here there are a few
going on day 10 without power. Ours was
off for about 3 full days.
The “great” thing was that I was at the beach. The not so great thing was that we left 5 hours later than planned and that made our drive about 3 hours longer than it should have been. Is that a super way to start a relaxing vacation, or what?

While I was
splashing in the surf and applying sunscreen on every visible inch of skin the
various items in my freezer were thawing, becoming quite icky, and then
thankfully refreezing. The stuff in the
refrigerator side was just warming up enough for bacteria to do a happy dance
then go into hiding. So out it all
went. It’s waiting at the street right
now to be picked up by my trash service.
I’m sure those poor guys have had quite a busy past week.
So I get to
start over guilt-free. You’ve read those
food and health blogs that encourage you to get rid of the bad stuff you have
and just restock with the healthy.
Honestly, that’s a little financially horrifying to most people – me included. I’m getting ready to start off to the store
in a bit. It will be a little painful,
but I can do it with a keener eye and my menu plan for the week. Guys, this is huge. I hate meal planning!
So here’s the
other part. I’m not crazy about the path
my little blog here has veered onto. It
isn’t exactly what I wanted it to be, not always a bad thing. It’s just not true to me or the general
vision I had.
I’m going to
look at it as an empty refrigerator. I’ll
see where the shelves need to be wiped down and I’ll fill it up with better
stuff. The staples need to be higher
quality and more fresh goodies. I want
to try new things and rediscover things I love, but haven’t had in a while.
It’s all
about learning here. Mistakes and failed
methods are two of the greatest teachers out there. Was there something here you particularly
liked? Something you thought you would
find, but it was missing? Are you
looking for something that I don’t have in stock? I want to be here for you and your
friends.
I've linked this up with Mary Beth over at New Life Steward for WIP Wednesday. Seemed fitting since this is all about being a Work in Progress. Hop over, check out her blog and all the others who have linked up and show some love. Thanks.

Good luck with both the food shopping and the blog realigning! I know both will be great!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'll be over for dinner. ;)
Thank you. We could just meet at our other place and you could get your Celtic on!! :)
DeleteOh my golly. You go girl! I can't wait to see what you do. Now, I did enjoy the new words. :)
ReplyDeleteKeeping the words. That's a fun thing to do and is definitely about learning. I need to pick a fun one for this week.
DeleteOh this is great !! I love how you pulled it all together and applied it to the blog. Excellent writing. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do!
ReplyDeleteMary Beth
Thanks, I'm completely open to suggestions. ;) (hint, hint)
DeleteWe will put our thinking caps on then! :) Thanks for linking up at WIP Wednesday!
DeleteBring it on!! You have great ideas!
DeleteThat's a great perspective! Have fun starting over! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks. It's really much harder to stay true to yourself and find a good way to make a vision reality. I'm sure you know all about that!
DeleteI love this... (sorry about the fridge though)! I tried to "start over" in my blogging 2 years ago and it never quite became what I wanted. So I just keep trying and hoping that inspiration will come.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping that Allume really helps with that!!
Same here! Also just found a thing that started a couple days ago from www.askaprgirl.com on a blog assessment. Really good stuff.
