It's the 80's, Baby!

Since we’re all new here, I think I should let you know just a little about me.  Hopefully, you’ll see a bigger picture that gets fleshed out over time.  For now, I want to give you just a little random insight.  I’m all about the random joys and trivia in life.  There’s a little fuzzy math here on my age.  I’ll be upfront with you.  I’m 42, and I’ve earned every day of it.  Our age tells so much about us because it puts us in a specific “when”.  This is about part of my when.

I admit, I enjoy 80’s techno pop and junk food.  I’m a baby of the 70’s and hit the sweet spot of music by being in high school in the 80’s.  This was also the coming of age of Doritos.  How many long band or choir practices or parties involved orange nacho cheese coated fingers.  And then, as if it couldn’t get any better – Cool Ranch Doritos.  HEAVEN to a teen!

All the while there was great music going in the background.  Music so great that you hear it all the time in grocery stores.  These are the songs that get stuck in your head.  You spin me right round, baby, right round, like a record baby, right round, round, round.  Okay.  Hand’s up.  How many of you actually had a record player?  I did, it had a picture of a back pocket of a pair of jeans on the lid.  If I say, “Oh, Yeah” are you immediately picturing Ferris Bueller and a flying Ferrari?

Maybe “enjoy” is too mild for what this is.  Maybe it’s a special kind of love that is reserved only for your first crush.  Not the kind that ended in hurt and angst, but the kind that ended with the cancellation of CHiPs or just outgrowing whatever band member that graced your bedroom wall.  Unlike these, I can get my music fix or a bag of Doritos any time.  That is why I also enjoy Zumba and will be burning off some chips in the morning, also all the fun Easter candy that made its way into my mouth.

In case you’re wondering, it was John Taylor from Duran Duran on my wall. So now it’s your turn.  I’d love to know a random bit about you and your when.

  3. LOL I skew just a teensy bit younger, I'll be 36 this summer. I was all about New Kids on the Block and had the biggest crush on Kirk Cameron... and Michael J Fox, who was probably almost old enough to be my dad.
